CPR 2816 - Part 1

On September 30, 1998, CPR H1b Class Hudson 2816 rolled into North Vancouver, British Columbia to begin one of the most extensive steam locomotive restorations ever accomplished. Chosen by CPR to document the entire process, Rail Innovations captured it all.

Part One covers the two year re-build program and the mainline test runs of 2816. Witness the disassembly, the hydro test, boiler and smoke-box removal, and frame work. See the drive wheel sets being removed, trued and then re-installed. Be there when the overhauled boiler is lowered to the frame, the new cab is installed and the €nishing touches are applied. After light up, be trackside, aboard the train and in the cab during 2816’s mainline testing. Much of the informative narration is provided by Al Broadfoot, the Shop Foreman during 2816’s restoration.
